is there anything better than sweater weather? okay, boot season comes a close second. but when a timeless classic blazer is added to the mix? that’s a trifecta right there. at least for this girl. after all, my style uniform consists of blazer, blue jeans, button down and boots come fall. the 4-b’s are definitely in action today and i couldn’t be happier.
the trend for blazers this year is oversized. longer, leaner and a little bit slouchy. it reminds me of the 1990’s sans the shoulder pads. did you know the blazer began life in boats by rowers at Oxford and Cambridge? they were meant to keep the rowers warm during early morning training sessions that were typically chilly. the first blazers worn by rowers were embellished with stripes or patterns that were indigenous to each rowing club. this also allowed the rowing teams to be identified by spectators seated on the shore during their races.
denim | shirt | sweater | blazer | boots | belt | similar handbag
today, i’m in blazer heaven with this tweed rendition by A New Day that’s available at Target. a cable knit sweater is the perfect partner especially with temps in the sixties. a striped button down, blue jeans and boots give a preppy flair to today’s ootd. but i couldn’t resist adding a few pearls to balance the masculine outfit with feminine accessories. the pin is vintage chanel but when shopping for older luxury items a good place to start is the real real or vestiare.

So happy to see you use the blazer. I have some from the past that are wool and have wondered how to freshen them up. A blazer is also my favorite! It hides a lot on this 70 year old bod! Thanks!
i’ve loved blazers since way back when! and now i know you do two. you know what they say about great minds, janice!

You do the men’s wear well, Beth! Thank you for the tag for the blazer. I will have to give it a look. Also, I think the rowing teams at ND still wear their striped blazers, sometimes. I came from South Bend and used to watch them while I was walking along a river walk, sometimes. They sure do go out in cold weather, there, sometimes. ..almost freezing. Nice history lesson. ????
those rowers must be cold blooded as the early morning temps come fall are quite brisk!
it must have been fun growing up in south bend and walking along the river.

I love a good blazer–grey is such a classic, and can be morphed into tons of looks. You look fabulous in this choice. I am so psyched that our weather has turned cooler–it feels great heading out in sweaters, and I have boots on today as well. I’m ready!
boots and blazers. does fall get any better? well, those cooler temps help!

I love your tales of clothing history! So fascinating! & you look great, as usual! Thank you, Beth!
i’m always interested in what goes on behind the fashion scene. so happy to hear i have a kindred spirit!

Would love to hear how blazers with “shoulder pads” could be updated since they are longer and a bit slouchy….I have sooo many that cost a fair amount of $ and they’re just sitting in the closet.
hi margie! gosh, i would definitely take your blazers to a tailor and see what the experts have to say.
