drumroll, please. today i’m introducing the latest version of a beloved closet staple – the mighty moto jacket. if you do not have a leather or faux leather moto jacket hanging in your closet you are missing out on a hard-working wardrobe essential. this baby goes with everything from skirts, dresses, and, of course, blue jeans. i reached for my moto jacket so often that it finally wore out after ten years. that edition was faux leather with the traditional side zip. take a look at here and here. when i noticed the collar was frayed, i was heartbroken but determined to find a replacement. several months later i finally made a decision. meet a double zip, trapunto quilted leather jacket by vince camuto. it’s on sale which sealed the deal. but what i love most is the trapunto quilting that gives it a little extra something.
this iconic jacket has a rich history dating back to WWI. yes, once again we have the military to thank for a fashion staple. german fighter pilots were the first to don bomber jackets. in the late 1920’s irving schott designed the first motorcycle jacket for harley davidson. schott incorporated a side zip and shortened the length. it was a hit with avid motorcycle enthusiasts as they could lean over their bikes with ease. but it leaped into popularity in the 1950’s when screen legend marlon brando embraced this tough-guy jacket in his performance as a motorcycle gang leader in the wild one. today, there are so many choices when it comes to moto jackets. this time around i veered away from a side zip and triangle collar. i like the simplicity this vince camuto jacket offered with a stand collar and single zip. but it offers a little extra pizazz with double zip pockets and trapunto quilting. what do you think? i’ve rounded up a few more versions. take a look below.
