today, i’m traveling down memory lane. at the end of the year, it’s next to impossible not to take a moment and reflect on the previous twelve months. when i started to flip through old blog photos, i stumbled on this set that was taken at the inception of the blog. the photos remain a pinterest favorite – follow along with me here – recently, i shared a pic on instagram, and it was a hit over there too.
i guess there’s no denying that a simple ootd is sometimes the best. what’s better than a turtleneck and blue jeans? that is unless you slip a plaid flannel shirt underneath. some of us loath distressed jeans and some of us love them. whatever your opinion we know that different styles of denim come and go. but we also know blue jeans are here to stay. amen! and they were born and bred here in the u.s.a.. thanks, levi strauss.
similar denim | similar shirt | similar turtleneck | similar shoes
so what are the key components of a classic outfit? items that have staying power like a turtleneck. for an oversized look, i’ll jump up one size or borrow one from mr. style. plaid shirts are a perennial fall favorite year after year. cap toe flats are a classic staple thanks to the infamous coco chanel.
okay, ladies, it’s wednesday. happy hump day. and thanks for indulging my nostalgia.

This look is ME, but in non-distressed jeans. Wearing a flannel under a turtleneck is something I will have to try. As far as hole-y jeans go, I think they look silly, especially on a saavy senior! We should celebrate our classiness, not try to look like the middle-schoolers I teach.
did i mention there’s always an opinion on distressed jeans? just remember your style ‘do’ may be a ‘don’t’ and vice versa. ain’t it grand to live in the 21st century where we have choices?!

I love the turtleneck that you are wearing because it isn’t tight to your neck. Anything tight to my neck is not a flattering look for my neck. I usually end up wearing a cowl neck or crew neck.
Can you tell me where you purchased it?
the sweater is old navy 2014.

What brand is your bag? Thanks.
the handbag is Fendi.

Thank you!
Great classic look … no wonder it’s still a favorite!
you cannot beat a sweater and blue jeans.

The jewel-tone colors in the plaid shirt are so vibrant! Looks fabulous. Today was bitter cold-only in the 20’s this morning–so I was bundled up in a turtleneck AND a wool scarf wrapped all around–like a big cocoon! Felt fabulous–with OTK boots, too. I felt toasty. Enjoyed your walk down memory lane!
brrrrr. we’ve had those temps too, sue! the one thing i love about our neck of the woods is that we’ll warm up again and we can ditch our hat and gloves. but i do enjoy hauling both out along with a toasty warm coat.
