one element that cements my signature style is timelessness. which boils down to stylish clothes made with quality fabrics and a great fit. and that’s not an easy task for brands to deliver. especially when you throw in affordability. on my recent trip to nyc, i visited the manus x machina exhibition at the met that explores the relationship between handmade and machine-made clothes. pre-nineteenth century every single garment was stitched by hand. can you imagine? but when the industrial revolution introduced the sewing machine the fashion world was forever changed. or rather introduced. while i love and admire haute couture clothes designed to fit one body (the workmanship alone is impressive), the reality is that ready-to-wear makes up the bulk of what we women are buying. and yes, i like trendy, fast fashion brands as much as the next person. think h&m, zara, forever 21 that give you bang for your buck. but mostly, i favor and appreciate brands that put timeless appeal into their clothes. twiggy, you’ve won me over with your thoughtful collection that can be mixed-and-matched, dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. for example, take this cotton eyelet jacket (we all know i’m a sucker when a blazer’s involved). today, i’ve paired it with a simple pair of chinos thrown on pointy-toed flats and added oversized pearls for a chic, casual ootd. but if the mood struck, this jacket could easily transition to nighttime glamor or nine-to-five dapper with the flick of a switch, errr, accessories. notice the cut of the jacket. it’s simplicity in motion with its boxy fit. and will look just as fabulous in five years as it does today. who can resist that? so if you are like me, always on the lookout for brands that deliver ageless style, well, i suggest you head on over to marks and spencer and take a look at how twiggy does just that!
